The active engagement of students in higher education quality assurance is attributed to promoting dialogue between institution and students, underpinning the validity and reliability of quality assurance review process, and proving fundamental to improving education.
The International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) and the Global Student Forum (GSF) are proud to present the INQAAHE Talks session ‘Building a Global Culture of Quality: The Role of Students in QA’. This virtual session will take place on May 8, 2023, from 1200 – 1330 UCT.
The session will provide a theoretical and practical discussion of student engagement activities in both internal and external quality assurance.
The event will feature an outstanding panel of speakers including:
- Derfel Owen, Director of Change and Improvement at the University College London in the UK, who will review historical foundations leading up to current practices engaging students in QA activities.
- Ellen Dixon, Steering Committee Member of the Global Student Forum & President of the New Zealand National Union of Students Associations, who will provide insight into regions developing and enhancing student engagement activities in external quality assurance, highlighting the value of participation from all voices.
- Horia Onita, Vice-President of the European Student Union, who will showcase the activities of the region as a leader in student engagement in external QA practices.
- Jovan Groen, Ph.D., Director of Academic Quality and Enhancement, Adjunct Professor – Education at Western University in Ontario, Canada, who will provide a theoretical approach to student engagement within institutional QA processes.
Mary Catharine Lennon, INQAAHE Board, will chair the session.
During the session, participants will have the opportunity to learn about historical foundations, current practices, global trends and regional principles of engaging students in quality assurance. They will also gain insights into coordinating student engagement, promoting dialogue and improving education quality.
The event will end with a discussion and Q&A session moderated by Mary Catharine Lennon, where participants can ask questions, share their experiences and engage with the speakers.
