The Global Student Forum (GSF) recognizes the urgent need for a comprehensive, integrated, and ambitious approach to fulfilling the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) by 2030. We believe that by promoting universal education and fostering global citizenship, we can accelerate progress towards the SDGs.

Below are our recommendations:

1) Strengthen Education Systems

Education, especially SDG 4, is the foundation of all other SDGs, and thus, we urge the UN to continue prioritizing and intensifying efforts towards quality education. We recommend:

  • Increased investment in teacher training programs and educational infrastructure, especially in developing countries.
  • Development and implementation of curricula focused on sustainable development, climate change, and human rights.
  • Promotion of digital literacy and providing equal opportunities for all in the digital age.

2) Promote Student Engagement

Active engagement of students is essential to ensure the success of the SDGs. We suggest:

  • Creation of platforms for students globally to engage, participate, and voice their thoughts and concerns on the SDGs.
  • Implementing educational programs that build awareness and understanding of the SDGs among students.
  • Encouraging and supporting student-led initiatives related to sustainable development.

3) Foster Global Citizenship

Global citizenship is key to realizing the vision of the SDGs. We recommend:

  • Integrating global citizenship education into school curricula to nurture empathy, respect, and social responsibility among students.
  • Encouraging international student exchanges and cross-cultural dialogue to enhance mutual understanding and global solidarity.
  • Implementing initiatives that promote cultural diversity, equality, and inclusion.

4) Support Education in Crisis and Conflict Zones

We must not leave behind those in crisis and conflict zones. For these regions, we suggest:

  • Increasing humanitarian aid to guarantee access to education for children and young people in these areas.
  • Providing psychosocial support and life skills training for students affected by crises.
  • Prioritizing education in all humanitarian responses and including it in peacebuilding strategies.

The GSF reaffirms its commitment to work with the UN and other stakeholders towards the achievement of the SDGs. We believe that with collaborative efforts and a renewed commitment to education and global citizenship, we can create a sustainable and equitable world for all.
