For decades the student movement has demanded quality, universal and free public education. Our calls however have often been neglected by politicians under the excuse of insufficient funding to make it a reality. During this unique training program activists will learn the basics of tax justice and the hurdles toward more equitable and efficient financing of education, reflect on their regional experiences and consolidate a global agenda for the worldwide student movement on tax justice and education financing.
Below and attached to this email you will find a short overview of the program:
Session 1: Wednesday 15th February, 14:00-15:30 CET – Introduction, tuition fees & decolonization. (Simultaneous translation in spanish, french and portuguese)
Why do we need to focus on tax justice? How is this related to worldwide increases in tuition fees? How does it relate to decolonization?
Session 2: Wednesday 22nd February, 14:00-15:30 CET – Regional perspectives and advocacy opportunities for Tax Justice on Education Financing.
What are our national budgets having on Education for their financial years? How can we work together to influence the allocation of more resources in our national budgets? These discussions will be carried out in parallel sessions (in english, portuguese, spanish, and french).
Session 3: Wednesday 1st March, 14:00-15:30 CET – Finalizing proposals for coordinated advocacy by the global student movement on tax justice. (Simultaneous translation in spanish, french and portuguese)
In this final session we will consolidate a global agenda and an advocacy action plan for the global student movement on tax justice for education. These outcomes will be used in processes such as the Global Campaign for Education’s Global Action Week for Education and the post-TES initiatives from UNESCO.
