Geneva, Switzerland - On October 16, during the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Global Student Forum participated in the open session on “Youth-to-Youth Support and Partnership.” The session gathered MPs and organizational representatives to discuss how to enhance youth engagement in political processes and parliaments, with a special focus on youth-led initiatives.
One of the highlights was a reflection on global contributions from young people through video messages, sparking discussions on the conditions necessary for greater youth involvement in governance. Emile Blant, representing the Global Student Forum, took the floor in person to emphasize the critical role of training in enabling young people to navigate future crises, particularly the climate crisis. He stressed that consistent funding and resources are key to building resilience and maintaining progress, even amidst austerity measures.
He also called for dialogue between student umbrella organizations and political leaders, pointing out that collaboration is essential to ensuring that youth voices are effectively represented and heard in decision-making processes.
This session underscored the need for continued support for youth leadership and funding as we work towards building more resilient and inclusive political systems.
